Ariana Grande has reportedly withdrawn from the 2027 revival of Sunday in the Park with George and plans to take a break from public-facing work after wrapping her Eternal Sunshine Tour, according to People.

While Grande’s team did not specify what led to the decision, the announcement comes after months of public scrutiny surrounding the singer. In recent months, Grande has faced widespread online criticism, public scrutiny, and body-shaming, with her representative saying she now plans to step back from public-facing work and appearances following the Eternal Sunshine Tour.
In a statement shared with the publication, Grande’s representative said the singer and actress will be “taking a step back from visibility” once the tour concludes.
“Ariana will be taking a step back from visibility after she completes the Eternal Sunshine Tour. She looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily, and then taking a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny. This tour has been a beautiful experience for her. She loves her fans and has loved every minute of this tour so much.”
According to the representative, Grande has also stepped away from Marianne Elliott’s upcoming revival of Sunday in the Park with George, which is scheduled to open at London’s Barbican Theatre in summer 2027. The rep added that Grande “cannot wait to support the brilliant team bringing this project to life.”
The production later confirmed her departure in its own statement.
“Following this evening’s announcement from Ariana Grande’s team, Empire Street Productions can confirm that she has decided to step back from Sunday in the Park with George. We know this cannot have been an easy decision, and she makes it with our complete understanding and support. We wish her nothing but the best. The production will open at the Barbican in summer 2027 as planned, and casting will be announced in due course.”
The revival, directed by Tony and Olivier Award winner Marianne Elliott, will still move forward as planned with Jonathan Bailey set to star as George. The production marks the first major London staging of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Pulitzer Prize-winning musical in more than 20 years.
Grande’s Eternal Sunshine Tour is scheduled to conclude on September 1. While she plans to step back from public appearances afterward, she is also set to appear alongside Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller in Focker-in-Law, which is expected to be released in theaters ahead of Thanksgiving.
