Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce haven’t confirmed any wedding plans, but that hasn’t stopped fans from looking for clues.
Rumors surrounding a possible July 3 wedding made headlines this week after reports claimed a permit application had been filed to close streets around Madison Square Garden from July 2 through July 4. According to multiple reports, the application requests road closures, temporary event structures and space for several hundred attendees. Neither Swift nor Kelce is named anywhere on the permit.
The rumored venue has also raised questions. Madison Square Garden is one of the world’s most iconic arenas, but it’s hardly the first place that comes to mind for a celebrity wedding. Sitting above Penn Station in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, it’s best known for sold-out concerts, NBA games and major live events, not private wedding ceremonies.
For many fans, that’s exactly why the speculation feels hard to believe. Swift’s public image has long been tied to carefully crafted visuals, romantic settings and cinematic storytelling. A massive indoor arena in the middle of Manhattan doesn’t seem like an obvious fit.
To get a sense of how fans are feeling, we spoke with Ryan, the owner of @Taylors_Archive, one of Stan Twitter’s largest Taylor Swift update accounts, about the wedding news, the Madison Square Garden rumors and the reaction from the Swiftie community.
An Interview With The Creator of Taylor Swift’s Fan Archive
Ryan, do you think Taylor Swift would sign a prenup before getting married? Why or why not?
Of course. Both of Taylor and Travis have built their own empires, and each of them has to protect their royalties and legacy.
Do you believe Madison Square Garden was really booked for Taylor and Travis’ wedding?
Actually, I do. She’s previously mentioned wanting a “big wedding,” and she’s probably going to invite everyone she’s worked with or crossed paths with, which would make sense if she booked Madison Square Garden.
If Madison Square Garden were the venue, do you think fans would be invited to witness part of the celebration?
We would definitely get photos with Taylor after the wedding, but realistically, Swifties are a huge fandom and we probably won’t get invited. Not complaining though…
Which celebrity do you think would be the first to post a photo from the wedding? and why?
Selena Gomez! She’s her all-time best friend, it would only make sense for her to be the first to congratulate her.
Last question: Do you think Taylor will have a specific song play during the wedding ceremony or reception?
It’s hard to say as I can’t speak for either of them or their personal taste. But personally, I don’t see “Lover” playing for obvious reasons…
Even so, despite reports of hotel bookings, heightened security planning and event preparations, neither Swift nor Kelce has confirmed that a wedding is taking place. That has started another theory among fans. If there is a wedding, perhaps all the attention surrounding Madison Square Garden is simply a distraction from the real venue.
For now, the only confirmed fact is that a permit application has reportedly been filed. Whether it has anything to do with Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce remains unknown. Until either of them says otherwise, the wedding speculation remains just that, speculation.
